Smartworks came about resulting from a name change of Chambers International Training Centre, which was incorporated in December 1995 to provide quality training in Real Estate through the organization of relevant courses with strategic partners including the Singapore Polytechnic, the University of South Australia and the College of Estate Management It has established a strategic working relationship with the Singapore Polytechnic to conduct a number of courses. The courses are designed to provide quality technical training and upgrading of practitioners in the real estate and construction industry. They are:
The Managing Director and principal lecturers of the centre are senior practitioners who have acquired many years of experience in the construction and real estate profession. They are conversant with the needs of the industry, backed by many years of teaching and lecturing experiences in local tertiary constitutions such as the National University of Singapore and Polytechnics. The Director is also actively engaged in delivering papers at international conferences and seminars. Smartworks Learning Centre is proud to be appointed as the local representative for two leading and reputable international bodies providing distance learning and training for students and practicing professionals in the property, real estate and construction industry. They are:
The College of Estate Management, with close association with the University of Readings, was founded in 1919 and granted its Royal Charter in 1922. It runs a number of programmes ranging from Professional and Postgraduate Diploma to Bachelor and Master Degree for professional qualifications as well as those for postgraduate studies. Most of its programmes meet the academic requirements of the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The University of South Australia has an international reputation for educating professionals and for applied research. It is a national leader in collaborative industry research and is recognized nationally for the quality of its teaching and community service, and has the State’s largest intake of international students. The Bachelor of Business (Property) has been offered by the University since 1960, has earned a reputation throughout Australia and overseas for its practical focus, analytical approach and the abilities of its graduate to contribute to their employers’ businesses and to the property industry generally. The local accreditation body, the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV), accredits this degree. Smartworks Learning Centre plays an important role to the two international bodies in providing local tutorial sessions support to the students on the programmes, equipping them with resources as well as providing services. With the objective of providing quality training to the real estate profession and industry in mind, Smartworks Learning Centre will continue to explore new training needs in the ever-changing industry driven by the legislative, technological and economic changes in the new millennium. In October 2006, Smartworks Learning Centre becomes part of the AEC Edu Group. With the added strength of AEC Edu Group, Smartworks Learning Centre is now in better position to enhance the education experience, with opportunity to expand regionally. ABOUT AEC AEC is proud to be an education provider to about 16,000 students worldwide.
